Curriculum Statement

At English Martyrs’ RC Primary School, our curriculum is rooted in our Catholic faith and guided by our mission, vision and values. We are committed to nurturing the whole child, enabling every pupil to flourish academically, socially and spiritually.

Our curriculum is underpinned by our core values of perseverance, honesty, courage, kindness, sharing and respect, which shape all aspects of school life and guide children in their learning, relationships and personal development.

Key Curriculum Features

The following key features summarise how our curriculum is designed and delivered at English Martyrs’ RC Primary School:

  • Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that knowledge and skills build cumulatively over time, supporting long-term learning.
  • Pupils develop both substantive knowledge (key facts and concepts) and disciplinary knowledge (how to apply skills and think within each subject).
  • Key vocabulary is explicitly taught and regularly revisited, enabling pupils to articulate their learning with confidence.
  • Reading is at the heart of the curriculum, ensuring pupils develop fluency, comprehension and a love of literature.
  • Rich and varied experiences, including visits, visitors and outdoor learning, enhance understanding and engagement.
  • Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage provides strong foundations for future success.
  • The curriculum develops pupils’ cultural capital, enabling them to understand the wider world and their place within it.
  • A strong emphasis is placed on inclusion, ensuring all pupils are supported, challenged and able to achieve their full potential.

You can find more detail about how our curriculum works in our full curriculum statement. We also provide curriculum information for each subject, so you can see exactly what your child will learn as they progress through the school.

Intent, Implementation and Impact (3Is)

In education, the Intent, Implementation and Impact (3Is) model explains how a curriculum is designed, delivered and evaluated:

  • Intent – what we want pupils to learn
  • Implementation – how learning is taught and experienced
  • Impact – the outcomes this achieves for our pupils
